What exactly is Zirconium Carbide ZrC?

Zirconium Boride (ZrC) Dark gray cubic crystal, has metallic luster. Crispy. The melting point is 3532. The boiling point is 5100. The density is 6.73g/cm3. Mohs ranges in hardness between 8 and 9. Insoluble in hydrochloric acid and cold water. It is soluble in sulfuric or nitric acid. It is strongly reacted with chlorine in high temperatures, forming zirconium tricholoride. Zirconia is formed by burning air at 700. ZrC does not react with water.

Zirconium carbide, a highly melting material, is hardy and has excellent high temperature resistance. It is used in the production of solid propellant for rocket motors. It is used in the manufacture of alloy steel. It is also a raw material for the production of zirconium as well as zirconium tetrachloride as well as promising fine ceramic materials.

What else can Zirconium Carbide ZrC be employed for?

Hafnium-free zirconium carbide and niobium carbide can be used as coatings that resist fire for nuclear reactors. This coating can be used to shield nuclear fuel uranium dioxide as well as the thorium dioxide particles due to its low neutron absorb cross-section and weak sensitivity to radiation damage. The coating is usually applied in a fluidized-bed reactor using thermal chemicalvapor deposition. It also has a high emissivity and a high capacity for current even at higher temperatures, which makes it a promising material for thermal photovoltaic radiators as well as fields emitter tips as well as arrays.

It is employed in abrasives as well as for cutting tools, filaments that glow incandescent, cladding, and cermets.

What is Zirconium carbide ZrC ceramic?

Zirconium carbide is a robust refractory ceramic material.

It is highly resistive to corrosion. This intrastitial IV transition metal carbide part of ultra-high temperatures ceramics, or UHTCs. The material’s strong covalent Zr–C bonds make it very tough and has very high melting ( 3530degC), modulus ( 4405GPa) and hardness (22.5GPa).

Zirconium Carbide ZrC Melting Point

The melting point for zirconium carbide is 3532 degC (6390 degF).

Zirconium Carbide ZrC Thermal Conductivity.

ZrC has a thermal conductivity of 20.5W/m*K. It also has an electrical conductivity (resistivity) of 43mOcm.
